New Building

We are in the new building and the boys were a huge help in assisting Liz in moving all of the supplies in and helping to paint the murals on the wall. Here is Domingo in an english class, working on the english words for different types of food. Below that, Angel poses in the Sports area of the Club.

Bench Building

In July, the boys got a chance to participate in several days of wood working lessons. At that time, we were just weeks away from moving into the new Club building and we needed benches. Rather than hiring someone to make them, Liz thought it would be a great idea for the boys to learn how to make them- thus, learning a bit about wood working in the process! They had a great time and all want to learn more.

We went banana boating, which they LOVED!

Jose. He is wearing a necklace with a photo of himself- so typically Jose!!

These boys LOVE to have fun. Here is Alberto (loving being the center of attention!) acting out a joke we have about "chickendie" while eating out at the Provocon.

Jose's house. When I show his two younger brothers, the little one is the one who was burned in July (after this video was taken).

We went to swim in a pool one day (which they were SO excited about- they so rarely ge to swim in a pool). We spent all day long in this pool! And we still had to drag them out when it was time to leave.

And this video is a bit of all of them.

The Older Boys

These are the older boys in our DOVE Missions program that range from age 14-17. In many cases, these boys are the "men of the house" and are needed to provide for their mothers, grandmothers, and younger siblings. They have been forced to grow up too quickly. Knowing how badly their families depend on them, we focus mostly on teaching them english. Here in Puerto Plata, the knowledge of english can be very helpful in finding a job. In the future, we are going to work on teaching them a trade. You can donate to the work done specifically with these boys by going to the website's paypal button (or sending a cheque) and specifying the funds to go to the vocational training.
